I’m web developer whose egger to learn and loves to “fiddle” with the limits of deign and development. I was born and raised in south west Michigan in January of 1983. My entire child hood I never tried to be the kid who stood out and impressed the teachers. I knew that as long as I did my best and tried my hardest, that people would be happy.
High school at Wyoming Park was really important for my future. I was introduced to computers, programming and the basics of design, but not for web sites, but rather buildings. I wanted to be an architect and was almost certain that’s what I was going to be. I never saw the world of the web coming at me until I got through a few years of college. At first I got involved in game development and design. I thought what better life than design and developing games, right? As fun and exciting as it was, it just wasn’t meant for me.
Web development really started for me from learning Flash and Photoshop. Most of the time I would practice just to keep the drive alive but it started to slump eventually. Then the time came for an internship. What better place for me than a small web development company that was just getting started. This was my opportunity to really move forward with this field, and I did just that.
Finally a HUGE opportunity came for me. One of my professors at Ferris State University came to me and said “I know you’re into web development and flash, how would you like to do web sites for the rest of your life?” 2 months later after a few phone calls and some examples I start my first job, yes job, as a web developer for Meijer Cooperate. All of my other jobs were just to pay the bills and get me through college, but this is going to be so much more.
What amazes me still is how I’ve taken several classes on development, programming, design, and program specific classes like Photoshop, Dreamweaver and flash over the course of several years, and I’ve learned so much from that. But still that doesn’t compare to how much I’ve learned working at Meijer for just less than one year. Just thinking about that gets me excited for the future.
